Why people love it
Gentle exercise: low impact and easy on the joints.
A workout for the brain: part snooker, part chess.
Truly for all ages: our members range from their 40s to their 90s, and men and women play on equal terms.
Social: doubles games mix everyone up, so you'll meet people fast.
Competitive if you want it: coaching, club championships and Croquet NSW pennants.
The versions of the game
Golf Croquet (what we play most)
The fastest-growing and easiest version to learn. Players take turns, in the order blue, red, black, yellow, to hit their ball through the next hoop first. Blue and black play against red and yellow, and whoever wins the most hoops wins the game.
Association Croquet
The traditional game. It's a race to send both your balls through all 12 hoops and hit the centre peg. Good players build long "breaks" of extra shots, much like in snooker.
Ricochet
An easier stepping stone to Association Croquet, invented in Adelaide in the 1980s. Hitting another ball earns you two free shots.
Gateball
A fast-paced team game, popular across Asia and South America and growing in Australia.
